McLaren 788HS Closes the Super Series Chapter in Style

Limited to 200 coupes and spiders, the 777 hp 788HS is the most potent version of McLaren's Super Series V8.

McLaren has revealed the 788HS, billed as the final and most extreme evolution of the Super Series family that began with the 720S and continued through the 765LT and today's 750S. Just 200 will be built, split evenly between Coupe and Spider, and every one is being personalised through McLaren Special Operations.

The revised 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged M840T V8 produces 788 PS (777 hp) and 800 Nm, the strongest version of this engine in the platform. With a dry weight of 1,265 kg, McLaren quotes 623 PS per tonne, 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, 0-200 km/h in 7.0 seconds and a 330 km/h top speed. A new S-Duct bonnet, multi-zone splitter, raised active spoiler and F1-inspired diffuser deliver 10 percent more downforce than the 765LT.

Chassis changes include bespoke tuning of the Proactive Chassis Control III hydraulic suspension, a front end 5 mm lower than the 750S, Senna-derived carbon ceramic brakes and centre-lock wheels, a first for the Super Series. HS stands for High Sport, a designation McLaren has used only twice before.

Pricing has not been published. As the closing statement for this generation of V8 McLarens, the 788HS looks destined to become a prized garage piece.
