Doug DeMuro’s Ford GT Sells for $540,000 on Cars & Bids
The well-documented 2005 supercar, driven more than 45,000 miles, found a new home at no reserve.
One of the best-known voices in car reviewing has parted with his long-term supercar. Doug DeMuro's 2005 Ford GT sold for $540,000 on Cars & Bids, the auction site he founded, when its no-reserve listing closed on October 17. The Midnight Blue Metallic coupe showed 45,721 miles, an unusually high figure for a model that many owners keep wrapped up as an investment.
Its history is unusually well documented. Automotive journalist Karl Brauer bought the car new in August 2005 for $151,695 and kept it until September 2018, when DeMuro took over. The sale included both window stickers, the original faxed order form, the factory build book, service records and the notebook Brauer used to log fuel stops over 13 years of ownership.
Mechanically, it keeps the original supercharged 5.4-liter V8, rated at 550 hp and 500 lb-ft from the factory, with a six-speed manual driving the rear wheels. It has a smaller supercharger pulley and a tune, and billet A-arms that had been removed were included. The listing also disclosed chips to the nose and rear diffuser, seat wear and clearcoat failure on one wheel.
The result shows that buyers will still pay strongly for a Ford GT that has been driven as intended, provided its history is fully transparent. DeMuro says he plans to replace it with a 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition, which typically commands a significant premium. Market data show one sold on Bring a Trailer in August for $2,101,000 before fees.
