Gordon Murray Automotive used The Quail during Monterey Car Week to debut the S1, a road-going evolution of the track-only S1 LM. That car was created in 2025 to mark thirty years since the McLaren F1 GTR won Le Mans, and the S1 carries the same spirit to the street as a modern homage to Murray's 1992 F1.

Power comes from a Cosworth-developed, naturally aspirated 4.2-litre V12 producing 507 kW and 500 Nm, with a 12,100 rpm redline and a six-speed manual gearbox. The carbon structure carries over from the S1 LM, but ride height rises by 10 mm, damping is softened for greater compliance and switchable modes are added. Performance figures have not been released.

Visually, the big rear wing, long splitter and deep skirts are gone. Round auxiliary lamps recall a 1992 Monaco show car, mirrors sit on the A-pillars with a camera system, and a roof scoop and quad round taillights remain. Inside is the signature central driving seat flanked by two passengers, reached through new dihedral doors, and a 24-carat gold heat shield continues an F1 tradition.

Only 64 will be made, each tailored to its owner, and pricing has not been disclosed.
